These compact devices are installed at the water supply inlet to household appliances. Scale filters are designed to produce only technical water. Although it does not contain harmful components, it should not be used for drinking or cooking.

Buying a scale filter is recommended to protect various household appliances with heating elements. The manufacturer specifies its intended use for:

• washing machines;
• dishwashers;
• electric boilers;
• water heaters;
• heating systems;
• gas water heaters.

In addition to protecting appliances, purified "soft" water has extra benefits — it increases foam formation and helps save on detergents and rinse agents for washing machines and dishwashers.

Types of water purification in scale filters:

Manufacturers use several protection technologies. In filtration devices, they are used either separately or combined in stages:

• Mechanical filtration: Water passes through fine-pored materials with pore diameters of a few microns. Solid salt particles are filtered out without chemical impact.
• Softening with polyphosphates: Fillers made of polyphosphate crystals enrich the water with sodium polyphosphate, preventing carbonate and silicate deposits on heating elements (TENs).
• Ion exchange: Ion-exchange resins replace magnesium and calcium ions, which form deposits, with other ions — usually sodium.
• Magnetic filters: Create a magnetic field that affects solid salt ions, "breaking down" unwanted compounds into a safe form.

Installation and maintenance of scale water filters:

Filters are installed on water pipes before connecting to household appliances (boilers, heaters, washing machines, dishwashers). Standard connection diameters are ½ or ¾ inch. Devices are compact. The kit includes necessary fasteners, and installation and user instructions.

If the filter has a replaceable cartridge, it should be replaced after the resource is depleted — typically every 3–12 months. Polyphosphate filters usually have a transparent housing so the filler usage can be visually monitored.

The total service life depends on the type of filtration, composition of the filter material, and is specified by the manufacturer in liters — up to 42,000 L. For filters intended only for washing machines, the number of washes may be indicated.
